Major General Charles Frederick Hughes CB
Late Indian Staff Corps died at Church Stretton, Shropshire aged 88.
He was educated at Cheltenham College and Royal Military College, Addiscombe; commissioned Ensign Bombay Infantry, 1861; Captain Bombay Staff Corps, 1864; served against the Foodhlee Arabs, 1865-6 (mentioned in Despatches); served during the Afghanistan War 1878-80, accompanying the Ghazni Field Force in its advance from Kandahar on Ghazni and into the Logar Valley, and was present at the Battle of Ahmed Khel and the action of Arzu (Mentioned in Despatches; Brevet Major); served during the Burma War 1886-7 ( Mentioned in Despatches, Brevet Colonel); successively Commissary-General Bombay, Madras and Bengal 1890-95 (CB 1897); Major-General 1900; in later life he resided at Ashton House, Newport, Shropshire.
