He was educated at Wellington College, Wellington, Berkshire, England.1 He was commissioned in 1931 with the rank of officer, in the service of the 5th Fusiliers.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Second World War, with Hong Kong, UK and North-West Europe.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1944.1 He was Brigade Major of the 11th Armoured Division between 1944 and 1945.1 He fought in the Mau Mau Emergency in 1953.1 He was commander of the 1st Battalion, Royal Northumberland Fusiliers between 1953 and 1955.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1965.1 He was president of the Army Regular Commissions Board between 1965 and 1967.1 He was with Urwick Orr and Partners, management consultants between 1967 and 1973.1
