About Maj. Jacob Lorenzo Gallup
He was the third child and oldest son of Jacob and Parthenia (Morgan) Gallup. When a young man he made one voyage to the Pacific on a whaling vessel. He succeeded his father in the occupancy of the homestead as a carpenter and farmer. He became specially things in the great revival occurred in Ledyard early in the ministry of Rev. Qiarles Cutting. From this time on he was an active member of the Congregational Church, always "ready to every good work."
As a deacon in the church and a teacher in the Sunday-school he did much to promote the interests of religion in the community. As a citizen, a neighbor, a friend, he was much esteemed and beloved. In the year 1856 and again in 1866, he represented the town in the State Legislature.
