M.D. degree at Harvard Medical School in 1937. Took postgraduate training at Johns Hopkins and interned in Baltimore and Honolulu.
Joined Army Air Corps in June, 1941. Served as gunner on Tokyo Raid, April 18, 1942, was the first air raid by the United States to strike the Japanese Home Islands. Served in England, North Africa, Sicily, and Italy during World War II and after Tokyo Raid. Doolittle's Toykyo Raid was made famous in several movies,including "30 seconds over Toyyo", "Pearl" etc.
The raid was about a Moral Boost for the United States following Pearl Harbor. After the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, that was very much needed.

A 80 brave men volunteered to bomb Tokyo without enough gas to return to the air carrier they took off from. After the bombing, they landed in mainland China.Sixteen U.S. Army Air Forces B-25B Mitchell medium bombers were launched from the U.S. Navy's aircraft carrier USS Hornet deep in the Western Pacific Ocean.
Decorations include the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Chinese Army, Navy, and Air Corps Medal, Class A, 1st Grade
