Benjamin was a Revolutionary War patriot listed in records along with Capt. John Coate, Private William Coate, John Chandler, James Gallbreath and Elijah Teague. Capt. John Coate and Private William Coate were relatives of Henry Coate, the husband of Benjamin Long's daughter Mary "Polly" Long.
Benjamin and his wife, Priscilla, sold land to his future son-in-law, Henry Coate, on Feb. 10, 1800 in Newberry District, South Carolina.
Benjamin was an Army officer during the War of 1812 as recorded in the "Register of the General Society of the War of 1812".
