About Major Daniel Boone
At the age of seventeen he went to Washington county, Arkansas, and
on May 27, 1861, enlisted in the confederate army under General McCullough. He
was the youngest member of Company I, but was soon made captain of his company.
He served in Arkansas until the battle of Elkhorn, or Pea Ridge, when his
company was transferred to Corinth, Mississippi. Captain Boone participated in
the battles of Iuka, Corinth and the siege of Port Hudson, as well as numerous
skirmishes, and was finally returned to Arkansas. He was involved in the battle
of Prairie Grove, in the latter state, and later was again sent to Mississippi.
He was under General Dick Taylor against General Banks in the Red River
campaign, during which he was in two hardly contested battles. Returning again
to Arkansas, Mr. Boone fought his last battle with General Price at Saline
river. During his military service Mr. Boone was wounded numerous times though,
fortunately, never very seriously, and his army record is one of bravery and
attention to duty.
