About Major Carl Campbell
Invandraren
"Charles or Carl Campbell, who lived from 1593 (although his portrait lists his date of birth as 1595) to 1632, perhaps served in Sweden as early as 1608 or 1609, according to a letter written by his widow in 1633. He appears to have been captured by the Russians c.1609 where he remained a prisoner for three years. [There is a reference to a Captain Campbell in a letter from Axel Oxenstierna to field marshal Jesper Krus in September 1612] He returned to Sweden around 1622 where he served as a lieutenant captain in Patrick Ruthven's [SSNE 3413] Småland regiment. Campbell then transferred to serve as a captain in Herman Wrangel's Kronoborg area regiment, and then in Thomas Muschamp's [SSNE 3168](same reg) where he became major in 1628. His service continued until his death around Christmas time in 1632. Campbell married Elin Jacobsdotter and they had a son, Jacob Campbell. A portrait of Charles Campbell can be found painted onto the wall of Skokloster castle in Sweden."
