Major Charles Lynch, I was born in 1704 in Galway, Connacht, County Galway, Ireland. His father was Thomas Lynch. He was a burgess for Albemarle in 1748-1749.
Charles married Sarah Lynch in 1733 in Lee County, Virginia, Colonial America. Together they had the following children:
- Penelope Fournay Adams;
- Colonel Charles Lynch, II;
- Sarah Clark Terrell;
- John Lynch (1740- 31 October 1820)
- Christopher Lynch;
- Edward Lynch.
He died on May 10, 1753 in Albemarle County, Virginia, Colonial America.
- Charles Lynch, Sr ran away from home at about the age of 15, taking passage on a ship bound for America.
- Upon reaching Virginia, the ship's captain indentured young Charles, as payment for the voyage, to the wealthy planter Christopher Clark. Clark took a personal interest in oung Lynch, advising him early on about the value of acquiring land.
- Micajah Clark, Christopher's son, also tutored Charles in law for several years. The Clark reportedly treated young Lynch more like a son than an indentured servant. Charles, in fact, ultimately married Clark's daughter Sarah.

Lynch, Charles, emigrant, was a justice for Albemarle county in 1745, captain in 1747, burgess for Albemarle in 1748-1749. He married Sarah, daughter of Christopher Clerk, Sr., and his will was proved May 10, 1753. He had issue Charles Lynch, who originated "Lynch Law" in Virginia against predatory Tories — John, the founder of Lynchburg, Christopher, Edward and Mary. Over 700 years ago, some descendants of the family migrated from Scotland to North Ireland," etc. see quote in file. This was the immigrant. He came to this country as a cabin boy and was appren- ticed by the captain to Christopher Clark.
