Major-General Charles Irvine

Charels Irvine, male, 17 February 1823, christened 25 March 1823, Tarves, Aberdeen. Father Alexander Forbes Irvine, mother Margaret Hamilton.

Charels was an Officer in the HEICS, in 51st North India, afterwards the Punjab Infactry: a Major General retired. Major General C. Irvine was gazetted from Addiscombe 10 Decemebr 1842, and posted, on arrival in India, to teh n51st Bengal Infantry: in 1843 he went through teh Gwalior campaign, present at teh Battle of Punnair (medal), and got six months batta; took part in teh first Sutlej campaign 1845-46, his regiment being employed on escort of seige trains, got twelve months batta; present at first and second seiges of Mooltan 1848-49 (medal); was, at time of outbreak of Inidan Mutiny, in command of Fort Michmie, and later second in command of hi regiment (which susequently numbered teh 19th and then the 27th Punjab infantry at Rawul Pindi; went with same regiment on Expedition to China under SIr Hope Grant 1860-61, and in commnad of one wing at Cusan; present in Looshai Expedition 1865 (medal). Joined Bengal Staff Corps on its foundation, and retired with reank of Major General 23 January 1875. Page 55, WImberley.
