Major General, Sir Howard Elphinstone, 1st Bt.

Lt.-Gen. Sir Howard Elphinstone, 1st Bt. was born on 4 March 1773.2

He was the son of Admiral John Elphinstone and Amelia Warburton.3

He married Frances Warburton, daughter of John Warburton, on 14 February 1803.2

He died on 28 April 1846 at age 73.2

He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.).2

He fought in the Egyptian Campaign.2 He fought in the Capture of the Cape of Good Hope.2

He was Colonel-Commandant of the Royal Engineers.2 He fought in the Peninsular Wars.2

He was created 1st Baronet Elphinstone, of Sowerby, Cumberland [U.K.] on 25 May 1816.2
