from Greg K. Wong of Placentia, CA

I'm the keeper of the genealogy for Nawahine, Kamaka, & Imaikalani ohana. Makaweli was my great grandmother. My understanding is Moku, Moke or or even Moses Mokuiki was my greatgrandmother's last husband and also her cousin. They were married somewhere between 1918 and early 1920's when she returned from Iosepa Utah. Her first husband Samuel Kinimakalehua Imaikalani passed away in Iosepa and is burried there. I remember my grandmother Mary Ann Nawahine, daughter of Makaweli would tell me if you hear the names like Kamaka, Ha'aheo, Kekauoha, Mokuiki, Waa, Kaupono, Kaanaana, Kamake'e'aina that they were all ohana. There are more names and if I hear it I will know. I met with Sam Kekauoha about 2 years ago when he found Makaweli to be part of the ohana. I'm not convinced it's Makaweli thats the missing link, but maybe her father Kamaka. The reason I'm not convinced it's Makaweli, is because I know and have met descendants of here brother (Paalani) and sister (Aiwohi). It could also be that Sam might not have found records of Paalani and Aiwohi. These two took their first names as their last names and didn't carry Kamaka. I'm not convinced that Makaweli is the sister to all the Kamaka boys uncle Sam has on this chart. That is why I think it's her father that maybe one of the brothers, although he is also from Onomea. I have the same records you do with her parents being Kamaka and Keawehawaii. It's a funny thing when I was there 2 years ago I asked Chubby Marasco Munetake, if they had any records of their grandma Kekela Mokuiki and she she no, but maybe Kela would have. The next day I see Kela at Laie chop sui and she tell me what uncle Sam has discovered. Then I met with Sam at the temple a few days later. I keep getting dreams also that I need to be looking toward the Mokuiki ohana to complete my link. I also have been chosen by my tutu to carry on the genealogy. I was the only grandchild to have touch and write in her genealogy books, I have met people that came to the house for her to update her records. Unfortunately when she passed other members of the family took her books and they have never been seen in over 40 years. I've had to recreate the records from memory and talk to the elders that was still alive 30 years ago. I believe this missing link is not for me to see yet, but will come to be when it is ready to be revealed to me. It is funny the first get together Sam had I was leaving to come home that same day. Now you all are having this reunion and I can't make it again. It is just not my time. It is strange how the uhane can be when the time is not for you. I know that someday I will find and close the loop on this chapter. My Mom said when Makaweli passed away my grandmother Mary Ann wanted Imaikalani on the head stone because she had children with him. Makaweli was still in Iosepa in 1910, she did not return until 1917 or 1918. She could have been in Hilo or Onomea between 1919 and 1920. I have an aunt that was born in Hilo around that time. My understanding from my Mom that he (Moses/MOke/Moku Mokuiki) and Makaweli were married in the late 1920 in Waialua Oahu. Full name is Anne Kamakaweliokauwila Kamaka she also used the name Evelyn but was known more as Makaweli, birth July 21 1861..Death May 1, 1947, although headstone is 1946 I have copy of Death certificate. My parents put the head stone on her in 1951 and got the year confused. She married Samuel Kinimakalehua Imaikalani he also went by just Kini.

7/30/2012 spoke to Greg Wong:

Makaweli lived by the cliff is where the Mokuiki-Ha'aheo family graves are down by Kamauoha Ohana, behind Cackle Fresh Egg Store near Kawainui stream. Her house was burned down by the elder of the church so she moved in with her daughter and soninlaw. Son Harvey also went by 'I' had a son who had 5 daughters. Sister Julina aka Kapika Kinimakalehua married J.C. Miu 3/14/1904 in Laie also had another husband King? Makaweli father was Kamakaoha'o from Hakipuu who owned a poi factory by Johnson Road where Coral Kingdom is called back then Chang Enterprise. Mother Keawehawaii was from Onomea, Hilo

Marriage cert of Peter Mokuiki age 59 and Ane Kini age 52 in Toeele, Utah October 17, 1913 he signed his name as Pila Mokuiki this is Mokuiki Nui brother! Born about 1854 and Ane about 1861. According to Greg Wong this is Makaweli aka Anne Kinimakalehua

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FW8Q-VZF 1st marriage to Samuel Kinimakalehua Imaikalani 8/22/1880 in Laie, she's age 19 and he's 40 born 1840, Doretha Makaweli
