About Mamie McDonald

Mamie Luella Henderson was born May 26, 1899 in Mountain View, Santa Clara County, California. She was the daughter of Vincent S. Henderson and wife Charlotte Drucilla Strong, the ninth of their thirteen children. The family lived for a while in San Francisco where Vincent was a barber. They moved to Fremont, Alameda County, California, soon after Mamie was born.

Mamie married Anthony F. Silva in 1918 They had two children. Anthony was the son of immigrants from the Azores. He was born January 10, 1900 in Monterey County, California and died March 9, 1920 in Santa Cruz County, California. He registered for the draft for World War I on September 12, 1918. At that time he was a laborer at a Sacramento hotel. He later worked as a laborer at a cement plant in Santa Cruz County. It is believed that cement dust damaged his lungs, causing his early death. Family lore says his lung issues were due to mustard gas, but this has not been proven.

Mamie married Joseph Alphonso Suda in 1922. They had five children. They divorced in 1959. Joe was the son of John Sudasch and Sophia Schrott, immigrants from Austria (John) and Germany (Sophia). He was born August 2, 1899 in Archer County, Texas and died June 28, 1993 in Manteca, San Joaquin County, California. He was an electrician who worked in the shipyards during World War II and for PG&E, the local power company. He and Mamie ran a taxi business in Palo Alto, California in the 1950's, which they eventually sold to Yellow Cab.

Mamie married Adrian McDonald. There were no children of this marriage. Adrian died about 1994 of Alzheimers.

After Adrian's death, as her health failed, Mamie lived with her daughter Luella. Joe was also in poor health and moved in with Luella. They shared a room for the last six years of Joe's life. Mamie died there, at the home of her daughter Luella, on June 24 1995, in Manteca, San Joaquin County, California.
