About Marcial Lichauco
In 1923, Marcial Lichauco became the first Filipino to graduate from Harvard University. He became secretary to the Osmena-Roxas (OsRox) Mission, whose goal was to plead before the US Congress the passage of a bill granting independence to the Philippines. This bill was the Hare-Hawes-Cutting Act (this bill, passed in January 1933, was the first US law that set a timeline for the Philippine independence). In 1963, he was appointed as Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Malabon de Sevilla Tree Custodian, 2018
