Marcus Abraham Heckscher, Sr.

Notes based on old family papers and material from Frank Heckscher of England:

The Heckscher famiily is said to have originated in the German town of Hoxter on the River Weser, and thus got their name, Heckscher being a corruption of Hoxter. Toward the end of the 1600's, the family migrated toward Hamburg and Altona. Abraham Marcus Heckscher was a broker and banker in his own name and appeared in the register of 1787 in Hamburg. He visited the Fair of Leipzig in 1795, and never returned. Circumstancial evidence suggests he was brutally murdered at that time.
