BIOGRAPHY Son of Robert Lodewijk Schenkenberg van Mierop and Yvonne Wientjes, both originally from The Netherlands, Marcus Lodewijk Schenkenberg van Mierop was born 4 August 1968 in Stockholm, Sweden, and was raised there. Growing up in Stockholm he had visions of being either an NBA star or a fighter pilot. In 1987, with a friend, he went to travel in America.

Two years later, earning a living as a dog walker and nanny for two young children, he was discovered by Barry King, a photographer, while roller-skating in Venice Beach, California. He agreed to have his pictures taken and, within two months, was on the catwalks of Paris. This, he maintains, prepared him for superstardom that hit soon after, when Bruce Weber shot him showering naked for a Calvin Klein jeans advertisement.

By 1991 he was modelling the spring and fall collections for the likes of Gianni Versace, Donna Karan, Ungaro and, of course, Calvin Klein. He became the highest paid per-year male supermodel in the world, earning over one million dollars a year. He speaks Swedish, Dutch, German, French, Italian and English.

In 1997 he published a book, _Marcus Schenkenberg, New Rules,_ which featured numerous photos and personal notes and comments about his career as a male supermodel. He has recorded a hit song, _'La chica Marita',_ and is a spokesperson for _PETA_ (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). He had a well-reported romance with Pamela Anderson, another _PETA_ supporter and co-habited with her for a while in Malibu, but the relationship ultimately ended.

Marcus Schenkenberg appeared as _Tiny_ in the 1997 movie _Prince Valiant._ In 1999 he played a role in _Modern Talking_ and the same year had the lead character in _Hostage._ He appeared in the year 2000 in _Dinner Rush,_ and _Meatballs and Macaroni._ Marcus has appeared in TV programs and series. His most recent role was as Danny, a handsome billionaire, in the teen horror independent movie called _Perfect Woman_ produced by Olympus Productions Limited in 2006.
