About Maree Kiwana-Makanihi Takuira-Mita Ngahere
Maree Kiwana-Makanihi Takuira-Mita Ngahere was just four weeks old when her innocent little life was tragically stolen. At only four weeks old her precious life had only just begun. A beautiful little girl with big bright eyes, dark hair and so much joy to share. Maree died on the 19th of February 2019. After an extensive homicide investigation, the coroner found Maree died after suffering a horrific brain injury that caused bleeding to her brain. The coroner said Maree's fatal injuries were caused by either forceful shaking or forceful impact to the head. Maree also suffered an injury to one eye, bruising to her head and severe bruising to one arm and one leg. Maree’s birth father Jahcey Te Koha Aroha o te Raki Ngahere (23) was charged with murdering his own child, assaulting another child in a separate incident and also three separate charges of threatening to kill seven different people. Instead of taking responsibility for his horrific actions, he took a plea and pled guilty to manslaughter! Ngahere was sentenced on the 17th of August 2020 to 4 years and 5 months. He was not given a minimum non-parole period. This means Ngahere could be free after serving only one-third of his sentence, or 17 months. He also received a 35% discount off his starting sentencing for pleading guilty, for his remorse and his difficult upbringing. Source: https://www.facebook.com/Stand-UP-NZ-493065167550374/
