About Margaret Abbott / Helm
Born in Detroit, Her father was a British officer killed at Fort Defiance, OH in 1794. Her mother later married John Kinzie and the family moved to Chicago. She married Linai Helm, a soldier at Fort Dearborn. She and her son survived the Fort Dearborn massacre, She was saved by the Potawatomie Chief Black Partidge during the attack. A sculpture was commissioned by George Pullman depicting that event. Her husband was taken hostage and later released. The couple were divorced in 1829 and she married Dr Lucious Abbott in Chicago in 1836.
