About Margaret Anketell
MISS MARGARET ANKETELL. The death has occurred of Miss Margaret Anketell, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Anketell, who were among the original settlers at the Upper Plain, where they took up two forty acre sections. The late Miss Anketell was widely known and respected as a skilful nurse, and was much loved for her kindness and helpfulness by all with whom she came in contact. She trained in the Wellington Fublic Hospital and then went as district nurse to Wanganui. During the Great War she worked with Imperial Army nurses in France and England for three years. When her health broke down she returned to New Zealand, arriving just at the’ time of the influenza epidemic, and was placed in charge of the emergency hospital at Eastbourne. For the last eighteen years Nurse Anketell lived at Eastbourne, and her services were in great demand, especially when there were no doctors in the district.
