Margaret was born about 1505, probably in Suffolk, England. The particulars of her birth are not known, neither is her family name. She married John Clarke, probably in Finningham, Suffolk, about 1530. Margaret and John had at least six children while living in Finningham. From the tax roll records, it is apparent that this family was of the landed gentry. John died in 1559, and Margaret was still alive in 1566, when she was taxed in Finningham. The fact that she was still his widow six years after his death, leads one to believe that she never remarried, and probably lived in Finningham until her death, but the date of her death is unknown. She was buried in the churchyard of St. Bartholomew’s Church in Finningham.
