Obituary
Maggie Elizabeth Coates went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 31, 2008, at the age of 99. Maggie was born in North Carolina to the late William Dudley Evans and Delitha Alice Evans. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Hayes, Va. Maggie 's sweet, gentle and caring nature will live on in those who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph C. Coates ; four sisters, Ethel Lovelle, Estelle Page, Caroline Champion, Nannie Harrell; and one brother, Roman Scarlet.
She is survived by two daughters, Jeannette Coates Cox, Carolyn Coates Stone, three grandchildren, Jeff Dudley and wife, Rita, Vickie Hall and husband, Ricky, Karen Harvey and husband, Barry; eight great-grandchildren, Jennifer Greene and husband, Michael, Jeffrey Dudley and wife, Jennifer, Deserie Hall and fiance, John Arangio, Sam Harvey, Tiffany McDonough and husband, Mark, Ricky Hall, Megan Hall, Nikki Harvey; five great-great- grandchildren, Ashlee Greene, Kirsten Greene, Michael Greene Jr., Brooklynn Dudley, Kamryn McDonough; one great-great-great-grandson, Caiden James Mullins.
Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Michael R. Gray will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Dr. Thomas Young, whom she loved dearly and to the wonderful people from Hospice and Meals on Wheels, all of which touched her life in a special way.
