The Barton DNA project is ongoing, with much more to learn. We started in the spring of 2001 and are still having fun. Join us in Phase 6, as we try to understand the heritage and genetic connections of every Barton family - no matter where they are from.

Our project is open to any male Barton or man believing that he is descended from a Barton male. Participants to-date have come from all parts of the USA, from Australia, Brazil, Canada, England and Germany. We're looking for more participants, particularly from the British Isles, which is believed to be the source of our name and original ancestors. We also would like to find Barton families from Bohemia, the Czech Republic, France, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, Slovakia, Wales, ... and any other country where Barton families are found (are the families from these countries genetic cousins from Britain who moved, or separate families who liked the same name?) Lineage II families most likely descend from Roger Barton of Westchester, New York. Families are found mostly in the Northeast, Midwest, Canada, and the West. However this lineage also has been traced back to England to Thomas Barton who married Mary Glover. They most likely are originally of Scandinavian descent either through the Danes or the Normans.
