Through DNA results sponsored by the Cooley Family Association, http://www.cooleyfamilyassociation.com/, it has been proven that our John Cooley is not related to Benjamin Cooley who immigrated to Springfield, MA nor to Cooleys of Dutch Descent. The test results for our group, as of August 2014, can be found under MEDIA. Two descendants of John Cooley and two descendants of William Cooley have tested. If you are a male Cooley and would like to be tested, please contact Michael Cooley http://ancestraldata.com/mailer/?michael

There is currently no paper trail to connect the contemporaries John and William Cooley. They could be brothers or cousins. William has been added as a brother to facilitate research ONLY

John Cooley (1749-1813) and Abigail Lippincott. A descendant of John and Abigail's son, Philip, is a 35/37 marker match to the William Cooley / Elizabeth Firmin line (CF10). Further testing is required.

William Cooley (-1817) and Elizabeth Firmin. This is who Elizabeth Firmin really married. They emigrated to Pennsylvania from Maryland c1803, appearing in Fayette county on the 1810 census. A descendant has tested as R1b1b and is a 37-marker match of John A Cooley, previously thought to have been a son of the fictitious Johannes Cooley. All records contradict, and none support, the Hamil claim of a New York Dutch descent. No collateral line has been found or suggested.
