About Margaret Malinda Copeland
w/o Flint Decosta Copeland
Excerpts from a Tribute written by Virginia Middleton in the Copper City Advance
The last rites were held for Mrs. F. D. Copeland in the First Baptist Church, Tuesday morning October 15 with officiating minister, Rev. I. C. Cutts, giving an eloquent testimonial to the life of outstanding love, sincerity, faith and kindliness. His comforting message to those bereaved, emphasized the beauty of her Christian experience which began nearly sixty years, when as a girl of 12 she gave her life to Christ and in whose service she devoted herself continuously for then until her last days.
Mrs. Copeland was born Margaret Malinda Fetzer at Cookston's Creek near Parksville, Tennessee April 10, 1876, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Fetzer, pioneer Polk County residents. She was preceded in death by her husband, Flint DeCosta Copeland, who died October 16, 1940. Since that time she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. T. J. Hicks, Sr.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hicks and Mrs. Jack Roddy; two sons, Frank and Flint; three sisters, Mrs. A. C. Rymer, Mrs. H. H. Crox and Mr. H. N. Bell; one brother, N. H. Fetzer.
Mrs. Copeland held lifetime membership in the Order of the Eastern Star, and she was a zealous worker in the First Baptist Church where she was a member.
Just a week before her passing, Mrs. Copeland returned home from a two month jaunt to visit the homes of all her children and their families, her three sisters, and her brother.
