About Margaret Douglas
MARGARET DOUGLAS
Spurious Pedigree
The existence of Margaret Douglas depends upon Hume of Godscroft's History of the House of Douglas, which is cited by William Fraser in the Memorials. Memorials of the Montgomeries Earls of Eglinton by William Fraser, p. 14
Writing in the Scots Peerage, The Reverend John Anderson says this about Margaret Douglas: "According to the Memorials he [Alexander Montgomerie] married 'a daughter of William, first Earl of Douglas, and his wife Margaret, daughter of the Earl of March,' but as William, Earl of Douglas (see that title), had no such wife nor daughter, the name of Alexander Montgomerie's wife remains unknown. The Scots Peerage etc. Volume III, p. 427
Margaret is noted in Sitrnet: Montgomery 02 to be daughter of William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas but at the same time notes that "sources disagree."
Foundation for Medieval Genealogy doesn't recognize this Margaret at all as a child to William.
