About Margaret Douglas

Lady Margaret Douglas, who received in 1404, the lands of Bonjedward from her half-sister, Lady Isabel Douglas.[24]

[24] Fraser, Vol.I, pp.290-91

MARGARET DOUGLAS

Margaret Douglas, here treated, is the bastard daughter of William Douglas, 1st Earl of Douglas & Mar According to the deceased Reverend John Anderson, writing in his account of the family of Douglas, Earl of Douglas, for the Scots Peerage, the name of her mother is not known. The Scots Peerage: 155 Wikipedia claims that she is the daughter of Margaret Stewart, but this is not supported by the evidence. Charter Evidence

10 November 1404: Charter by which Isabella of Douglas, Countess of Mar and Garrioch, confirms that she has given to her sister Margaret of Douglas and her husband Thome son of John, a twenty merk land in the forest of Jedwort and sheriffdom of Roxburgh, which land lay adjacent to her own demesne land of Bunegedwort. The land was to be held by Thome son of John for his lifetime, and following the death of Thome and Margaret it was to pass to Countess Isabella's nephew John of Douglas.
