About Margaret Ellen "Mag" Gibbs
Louis and Margaret Ellen (Gibbs) Borders were married on April 11, 1902 in Wayne Co., MO. She was my 2nd great aunt as well as my step-great-grandmother (due to her marriage with Louis)!
Louis & Margaret were members of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints.
The profile picture shows: Back Row left to right: Effie & Allie.Borders. Middle Row left to right: Lee & George Borders. Front Row left to right: Louis holding Opal, Margaret, and Clara Borders.
Irene Adams shared memories of Margaret Borders with me in 2003: "Granny Borders showed Indian features in her face. I sure wish you could have met her. She lived to be 95. She was sharp as a tack. If she invited you to dinner, it was served at 11:30 a.m., whether you were on time or not. she had a garden and canned until she was 93. She had cancer of the colon when she was 90. The family really didn't think that she should have surgery because of her age. The doctor thought she would do ok. My Dad thought she should go ahead with it and she did. Dad never looked on age as an obstacle. She got along just fine with the surgery, and did not have to have a "bag". I remember my brother talking about stopping to see her and visit with Opal (Borders) when Opal stayed there to take care of her in the last few months she was alive. Bud and Opal would sit out on the porch in the swing and talk. The house had two front doors - one in the living room and one in the front bedroom. Sometimes Granny would get out of bed and stand by the door so she could hear what they were saying. She didn't know that my brother could see her!"
