(11) i Sir Thomas Foote, Knight and Citizen of London Born about 1592; Free of the Company of Grocers, London he was Sheriff of London, in 1645-46. He became Alderman of Broad street, 16 May 1643, and of Coleman street, 1648 till displaced; Lord Mayor, 1649-50; M.P. for London, 1654-55, and 1656-58; was Knighted, by the Protector Cromwell, 5 Dec. 1657 ; Member of the Council of State, 1 Jan. to 1 April 1660, and having, presumably, been again Knighted by the King, was crowned. a Baronet. 2 Aug. 1660. He died October 12, 1687, 96 yrs. Sir Thomas was buried in the Parish Church of All Saints in West Ham in the year 1687. The church has a monument placed in his honor. Sir Thomas Foote was a first cousin to Nathaniel the Settler. He was married in 1625 to Elizabeth Boddicott who was the widow of Augustine Boddicott. SOURCE: Complete baronetage; Cokayne, George E. Son was Sir Thomas Foot, Knight & Baronet, Citizen and Grocer; Lord Mayor 1649; Alderman 1643; Sheriff 1645; knighted by Cromwell 5 Dec 1657; created a Baronet 21 Nov 1660; M.P. London 1654-8; Died 12 Oct 1687 in 96th year. M.I. West Ham. Will pr. (P.C.C. 136 Foot) Nov 1687. Married Elizabeth dau. of William Mott of London, son of Robert, Bellfounder to Queen Eliz.; widow of Augustine Boddincott; m. 20 Dec 1625; d. 10 Oct 1667 aged 71; bur. West Ham. M.I." John was of St. Bennet, Grace Church, grocer, when licensed to marry Margaret Brooke, spinster, on 10 April 1581, married 11 April 1581 at St. Mary Woolnoth Church, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Whetman) Brooke. The will of John Foote, Citizen and Grocer of London, is dated 17 November 1616, probated 4 December 1616 (PCC 127 Cope = Waters 1277) The children are named John, Thomas and Samuel Foote, Elizabeth Haies, Susan Cutt, Priscilla Clement, Ellen Foot. All the children are by wife Margaret.
