About Margaret Gordon
"In the Highlands in those days the priests married and John, who took Holy Orders and became the Priest of Kintail, had a daughter Margaret. We come upon her as Lady-in-waiting to the Countess of Sutherland. Later she married John Gordon of Drummoy, of the Huntly Family, and had five sons and two daughters. She was the ancestress of the Gordons, Baronets of Embo. She was a very virtuous gentle-woman much given to hospitality, both towards rich and poor, and the best entertainer of strangers and others, that has been these many years in that province, of her estate and quality. She died at Dall in 1598 and was buried at Dornogh, much regretted by all who knew her. Because of Margaret’s marriage to a Gordon, a grandson of the Earl of Huntly, there was of old great friendship and correspondence between the Gordons of Sutherlandshire and the Macraes of Kintail. "
