Margaret Hepburn, primus, here treated, is the daughter of Patrick Hepburn, 1st Earl of Bothwell and his wife Margaret Gordon, Countess of Bothwell According to the Scots Peerage: "Margaret Hepburne, who was married, contract dated 26 June 1509, to Archibald Douglas (son of George, Master of Angus), who afterwards succeeded as sixth Earl of Angus. The contract of marriage is preserved in the Buccleuch charter-chest. John, Prior of St. Andrews, George, Abbot of Aberbrothok, Adam Hepburne of the Craggis, and Mr. George Hepburne, Dean of Dunkeld, were parties on behalf of Adam, Earl of Bothwell, brother of the bride. She died in 1513, it is said, in childbed, leaving no surviving issue." The Scots Peerage II: p. 155
