About Margaret (Jane) Jane Gowen/Gowan
LOS ANGELES TIMES - 26 July 2002:
- ***************************** Jane (Thompson) Gowan, died Sunday, July 14, 2002 in Los Robles Hospital. She graduated from Washington High School at Los Angeles in 1937. She then went to UCLA for two years.
From 1946 to 1960 she worked as a Student Placement Officer, beginning her career at Claremont Graduate School, then later serving at Long Beach State, where she received her BA and Master's Degree.
After her marriage to John Gowen, they resided at Northridge where they worked at San Fernando State College, and traveled extensively for work and pleasure. After John's death, she continued to travel and enjoy her many friends.
Her great appreciation for art was evident throughout her life. As a young woman, she worked as an assistant for photographer Ansel Adams. Later, she served as a docent at the Norton Simon Museum at Pasadena, and the L. A. County Museum of Art. Throughout her life she found pleasure in supporting the work of young artists whose work was yet unknown.
She also made many generous charitable contributions to the Multiple Sclerosis Society; major grants in support of heart research; and the donation of a new swimming pool to the YMCA at Thousand Oaks. She had a zest for life that never left her.
