About Margaret Joanna (Geiger) Bliss
Margaret Joanna (Geiger) Bliss was the daughter of German immigrants to Holyoke. She was conceived in Holyoke and her parents went back to Germany for the birth since it was the first grandchild for this Geiger family, a German grandfather requested in his home, and they returned to the US after she was born, so she is a 1st generation American of American parents.
The is some question about her the past report of her birthdate. Her mother Mary Margaret Mim was married successively to two brothers of the Wambach family, the first to George Alfred Wambach, Sr. and after he died to the second, George Geiger (born Wambach). Sometimes people assume incorrectly that both brothers are same person, perhaps because they have the same first name. Hence, her birthdate is constrained by the 1st husbands death date in 1886 and next earliest born sibling, Ruth A. Geiger, in 1890, Otherwise. Margaret Johanna Geiger's birthdate with fall in the1st family with Wambach surname, instead of the Geiger family.
Her prior birthdate and death place were the ones given in Aaron Tyler Bliss's 1st volume of "Genealogy of the Bliss Family of America, but conflict with currently known dates and place. The likely Bliss source of of the birthdate is her oldest daughter, Pearl Margaret (Bliss) Batkay, now deceased, so probably is just a typo.
She sang opera, probably professionally. After all, Geiger is the German trade name of a violinist or someone who is involved with violins.
Margaret Joanna (Geiger) Bliss is the maternal Grandmother of Floyd Bliss Hanson. During the summer of 1939, she and the family of her youngest daughter Violet Ellen (Bliss) Hanson toured much of the United States in her car before moving out to Long Island from Brooklyn. She died in her daughter Violet's house in Babylon, LI, New York.
So since she was 20 years old when she was married to Leon Bliss in 1898, she must be the daughter of George Alfred Wambach, Sr., but her step-father would have given her away at the wedding, since Wambach was long dead. In the 1900 US Census for Holyoke, Massachusetts, she is listed as being 21 and her son George is listed as 1.
