On September 14, 1827, Margaret Olliff was born in Georgia, the daughter of Joseph Olliff and Rebecca (Donaldson) Olliff.

On December 23, 1850, Margaret Olliff married Bassel Jones (1824-1897) in Bulloch County, Georgia. Bassel and Margaret Jones were the parents of 7 children including Franklin Jones (1852-?); John Jones (1853-?); Sarah (Jones) Bell (1855-?); Joseph "J.J." J. Jones (1858-1930); James Jones (1861-?); Henry Bazil Jones (1863-1935) and Allen 'Iverson' Jones (1865-1934).

In 1860, Bassel and Margaret Jones were living in Emanuel County, Georgia. Bassel Jones served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.

On February 9, 1867, Margaret (Olliff) Jones, age 39, died in Emmanuel County and buried in Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, nearby Statesboro, Bulloch County, Georgia.
