Margaret Muir, here treated, is the daughter of Matthew Muir, Merchant in Glasgow, and his wife Janet Crawford. She was born on or before 16 October 1614, the date upon which her baptism was registered at Glasgow in Lanarkshire, Scotland. [National Records of Scotland, Glasgow Baptisms, 1609-21, reference OPR.644/1/1]
Margaret Muir's mother Jonet Crawford died intestate in June 1620. Her father gave up the testament dative and inventory in name and behalf of Margaret four years later, on 30 June 1624. It seems that Margaret was the only surviving child on that date.
The testament dative and inventory of Jonet Crawford, here treated, was given up by her husband Matthew Muir, elder, Merchant in Glasgow. It was given up in name and behalf of their daughter Margaret Muir. George Muir of Polmadie acted himself as cautioner for Matthew Muir, and confirmation was granted on 30 June 1624.[National Records of Scotland, Glasgow Commissary Court, Testament Dative of umqle Jonet Crawfuird spous to Mathow Muir elder merchant burges of Glasgw, reference CC0.7/17]
