Mrs. Margaret Russell Claimed by Death

A well known and universally beloved pioneer, Mrs. Margaret F. Russell, 86, widow of the late Perry Russell, departed this life at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 1939, at her home in this city. She had been confined to her bed two weeks and for the past week her death had been momentarily expected.

Funeral rites were held at the Methodist church at 2:30 p.m. today, conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. L. Lloyd. The body was laid to rest in Green Hill cemetery beside her husband who passed away July 31, 1919. Hutchins and Sons was in charge.

Margaret Francis Wright was born Aug. 12, 1853, in the Choctaw Nation at Doaksville, now known as Eagletown, Okla. She came with her parents to this vicinity when four years old and spent the remainder of her life here. She was married to Perry Russell in 1867 at Cobb Springs near the Washita river west of Davis.

To this union were born ten children (five girls and five boys) seven of whom survive, namely: John, Clabe and Will Russell, Davis, Okla.; Pat Russell, San Francisco, Calif.; Bud Russell, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Mrs. Jim (Ellen) Rose and Mrs. John (Rhoda) Mabry, both of Davis. Those deceased were: Mrs. Fannie Ferguson, Mrs. Asa Maley and Jane Russell. She also had 40 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

"Grandma" Russell was a loving, faithful wife and mother. Her life was full of sunshine and cheerfulness, and she always had a kind word for everyone and seemed to delight in making others happy. She had been a member of the Methodist church since she was 25 years of age.
