The Queenslander (Brisbane, Qld. : 1866 - 1939) Saturday 25 May 1912

Mrs. Margaret Miller (widow of the late Mr. Robert Miller), who died on Thurs day last at her residence, Clayfield, was one of Queensland's pioneer settlers. Born at Dunoon, near Glasgow, Scotland, on March 1. 1834, she was in her 70th year at the time of her death. Mrs. Miller's father was the late Mr. John Scott, well known in the Imperial Customs at Ha wick. She was married at Dundee in 1857, and with her husband came to Queensland in the same year, and settled on Kinnoul station, on the Dawson, which had been taken up a few years before by Mr. Miller. They afterwards resided for many years in the Logan and Albert district, Warwick, and Ipswich, where Mr. Miller filled various public offices. Mr. Miller died at Ipgwich in 1899, and his widow subsequently removed to South Brisbane and thence to Clayfield, where she has lived for the last 12 years. Mrs. Miller was typical of the hardy Scottish settlers of the early days. She was for many years a member of the old Ann street Presbyterian Church congregation under the late Rev. Charles Ogg, and (subsequently of St. Stephens, Ipswich, under, the Rev. Peter Robertson. Almost up to the date of her death she was a regular attendant at tbe Bellevue Pres byterian Church, Clayfield. Mrs. Miller was a cousin of Sir John Murray, of Ox ford (of dictionary fame), and of Mr. Charles Murray, also of Oxford. Six years ago she visited Scotland, after an absence of 49 years, and was present at the great Hawick gathering, when the -freedom of the city was conferred upon Sir John Murray. She was a deep reader, and i3i was Keenly interested in scientific anS social problems, and also followed both local and Imperial political questions •with a keen interest. Mrs. Miller is survived by two daughters (Mrs. J. J. Trundle and Miss K. W. Miller, of ClayfieldJ, and three sons (Messrs. K. 6. Miller, of Araniac, C. J. F. Miller, of Roma, and E. H.
