Fairly/Fairley

Wife of John Fairly (b. abt 1717 Scotland; d. 1798 NC). Margaret and John were married about 1747 in Argyllshire, Scotland. In 1770, John and Margaret, with their children, immigrated aboard the ship Edinburgh to Wilmington, North Carolina. The family eventually settled along Drowning Creek (Lumber River) in what was then Richmond County, NC.

All the children of Margaret Stewart and John Fairly were born in Scotland. They were the parents at least seven children:

Archibald Fairley (1749-1807)
Mary Fairley McEachin (1751-1834)
Alexander Fairley (1753-1827)
Daniel Fairley (1756- )
Robert Fairley (1760-1821)
Ann Fairley McGill (1764-1795)
John Fairley Jr.(1766-1854)

Note: Records indicate that subsequent generations of the John & Margaret Stewart Fairly family spelled their surname with an "e" - "Fairley".
