He married Margaret Bush (1802-1854), daughter of Jacob and Margaret Swan Bush, on 24 JUN 1819, in Lewis County VA, now WV. Absolom and Margaret Bush Stump had sons: Jacob John who married Mary "Polly" Vannoy; John who married Elizabeth Huffman; Dennis who married Mary Brannon and Catharine Boone, daughter of Jacob and Martha Sands Boone; Silas who married Catharine Ann Stalnaker; Perry who married Elizabeth Smith; Alexander H. who married Catharine V. Godfrey; and daughters: Eliza who married Alexander Shock; Emily who married first John A. Meadows, and second Samuel Noe; and Elizabeth who married Edwin Witte.
