Notice Margaret's place of birth and place of death. Her husband's grandfather, Andrew Vance, was born in Virginia and died in Virginia--but he (Andrew) was shipped to Pennsylvania to be buried. This would mean that he travelled to Pennsylvania before returning to Virginia. Margaret's birth in Pennsylvania is additional confirmation that the family as a whole travelled to Pennsylvania before coming back to Virginia--and even though Samuel Jr. was born in and died in Virginia, he may have met her as part of that journey.

Margaret Laughlin was born about 10 March 1756 in Chester, Pennsylvania. She married Samuel Vance, Jr. on January 8, 1778 in Washington county, Virginia. They were reportedly the parents of 12 children: John, Samuel, Robert, Andrew, David, Harriet, Jane, Margaret, Elizabeth, James, Sarah, and an infant who died shortly after birth.
