About Margerete Plicha (Wiens) (Chuprin)

GEDCOM Note

Маргарита (Рита) Чуприна (GRanDMA #485153) born in the Mennonite colony of Alexandrodar, Kuban District, North Caucasus. Her father, Jacob Wiens owned the brick and tile factory in Wohldemfuerst (later Vyelikoknyazheskoye). She had a challenging chidhood, but was known for being cheeky. Following the death of her parents,she joined her brother, David in Rostov-on-Don, where they lived with their Uncle Kornelius. There she met Aleksandr Dmitrievich Chuprin in Rostov. They married and had 3 children. The first,baby, a girl, died in infancy. She went on to have 2 boys, Anatoliy and Vitaliy. Margarete and Aleksandr divorced in c1940 - Anatoliy went to live with his father.

During WWII, Rostov was invaded by the German Army. Although the circumstances are not clear, Margarete was sent to work as an interpreter in the prisoner of war camp in Germany (she spoke Russian and German). During this period she fell in love with a Polish soldier, Wladyslaw Plicha who was a captive. Following the liberation of the camp they were married in November 1947. The family became displaced persons and were accepted as refugees. Making their way to Naples, Itlay they were embarked on a ship sailing to Sydney, Australia.

They arrived in Sydney sailing in to the harbour on New Years Eve, 1949 / 1950. Vitaliy was adopted by Wladyslaw and he became Hubert John Plicha. They all settled in Campbelltown, New South Wales, Australia and much later moved to Parkes, New South Wales, Australia where Margarite and Wladyslaw lived out their lives.
