Infanta Margarita, Duchess of Soria, is the younger sister of King Juan Carlos and aunt of the reigning King Felipe VI of Spain.

Infanta Margarita was born in Rome as the younger daughter of Infante Juan, Count of Barcelona, and Princess María de las Mercedes of Bourbon-Two Sicilies. Margarita has been blind since birth.

She married the physician Carlos Zurita y Delgado on 12 October 1972 in Estoril. They have two children: Alfonso Juan Carlos Zurita y de Borbón (b. Madrid, 9 August 1973). María Sofía Emilia Carmen Zurita y de Borbón (b. Madrid, 16 September 1975).

Margarita renounced her right of succession upon marriage.

On 6 January 1979, the Infanta's cousin, Manfredo de Borbón, 1st Duke of Hernani, died and willed his ducal title to be inherited by Margarita. The King granted this request, and on 27 May 1981, she became 2nd Duchess of Hernani with accompanying dignity Grandee of Spain. The peerage title referres to the town Hernani, Spain. The next month, on 23 June 1981, she was also granted a higher dukedom for life by the king, and became Duchess of Soria (referring to the city Soria in Spain).

In 1989, alongside her husband, they created the Fundación Cultural Duques de Soria (The Duke and Duchess of Soria Cultural Foundation). She's also Honorary President of Madrid's delegation of UNICEF and of the Spanish Heart Foundation.



Infanta Pilar, Duchess of Badajoz, Dowager Viscountess of la Torre, sometimes known more simply as Pilar de Borbón is the elder daughter of Infante Juan, Count of Barcelona and Princess María Mercedes of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, and older sister of King Juan Carlos I. She has also a younger sister, Infanta Margarita of Spain.

Infanta Pilar spent her early years at the royal family's home in exile at Estoril in Portugal.

She was a bridesmaid at the 1962 wedding of her brother Prince Juan Carlos of Spain and Princess Sophia of Greece and Denmark in Athens.

Pilar needed to renounce her rights of succession to the Spanish throne to marry a commoner as stipulated by the Pragmatic Sanction of Charles III on marriages of members of the royal family; later in 1987 she was made Infanta, ad personam, by her brother King Juan Carlos with the style of Royal Highness.

She married Don Luis Gómez-Acebo y Duque de Estrada, Viscount de la Torre, Grandee of Spain (Madrid, 23 December 1934 – Madrid, 9 March 1991) on 5 May 1967 in Lisbon, Portugal.[citation needed] He was the fourth of six children, of Jaime Gómez-Acebo y Modet (ca. 1900 – ?) and wife (m. 1927) Isabel Duque de Estrada y Vereterra, 9th Marchioness de Deleitosa (ca. 1903 – ?). Jaime Gómez-Acebo y Modet was a son of the 3rd Marquess de Cortina and an uncle of Margarita Gómez-Acebo y Cejuela. They had five children: Her Excellency Doña María de Fátima Simoneta Luisa Gómez-Acebo y de Borbón (31 October 1968) she married Jose Miguel Fernandez-Sastron on 12 September 1990 and they were divorce on 16 October 2012 [3]. They have three children: Luis Juan Fernández-Sastrón y Gómez-Acebo (23 September 1991) Pablo Fernández-Sastrón y Gómez-Acebo (4 May 1995) María de las Mercedes Fernández-Sastrón y Gómez-Acebo (17 January 2000), whose godfather is Felipe VI of Spain His Excellency Don Juan Filiberto Nicolás Gómez-Acebo y de Borbón, Vizconde de la Torre (6 December 1969) he married Winston Carney on 2 January 2014 They have one son: Nicolás Gómez-Acebo y Carney (2 March 2013) His Excellency Don Bruno Alejandro Gómez-Acebo y de Borbón (15 June 1971) he married árbara Cano y de la Plaza on 5 October 2002. They have two children. He remarried Andrea Pascual Vicens on 27 February 2016. They have one son: Luis Felipe Gómez-Acebo y Ponte (1 July 2005), whose godfather is Felipe VI of Spain Laura Gómez-Acebo y Ponte (1 July 2006) Juan Gómez-Acebo y Pascual (17 July 2016) His Excellency Don Fernando Humberto Gómez-Acebo y de Borbón (born 13 September 1974), married Mónica Martín Luque in Madrid on 27 November 2004. Separation was announced in July 2011,[9] and they divorced in January 2013. On 31 May 2016 Fernando married journalist Nadia Halamandari in Palaio Faliro, Athens. They have a son: Nicolás Gómez-Acebo y Halamandari (5 June 2016)

Pilar de Borbón has been supporting international equestrian sport. She was President of the International Equestrian Federation from 1994 to 2006, succeeded by HRH Princess Haya bint al Hussein. She wrote the foreword of the official Spanish translation of the national instruction handbook of the German National Equestrian Federation, Técnicas Avanzadas de Equitación - Manual Oficial de Instrucción de la Federación Ecuestre Alemana.

From 1996 to 2006 she was a member of the International Olympic Committee for Spain, when she became an honorary member, and Member of the Executive Board of the Spanish Olympic Committee.

From 2007 to 2009 she was President of Europa Nostra, the pan-European federation for cultural heritage.

Mossack Fonseca files document that in August 1974, Pilar de Borbón became president and director of the Panama-registered company Delantera Financiera SA (registered May 1969) with her husband as secretary-treasurer and director. In 1993, London-based Timothy Lloyd who had represented the undisclosed owner of the company said that Pilar de Borbón owned it. After March 1993, the intermediary representing the company was Madrid-based Gómez-Acebo & Pombo (es) Abogados, a law firm founded by Pilar de Borbón's brother-in-law Ignacio Gómez-Acebo (es). From July 2006 until its dissolution in June 2014 Pilar de Borbón's son Bruno Alejandro Gómez-Acebo Borbón was director and treasurer of the company.
