Margery Cox was baptized November 16, 1600, St. Olave, Bermondsey, Surrey, Borough of Southwark, England. Today this is a borough of London. The record only gives her father's name as Edward Cox.
On July 29, 1624, Sedgley, Staffordshire, England, Margery married Richard Sanford. So far I have found baptism records for three children, all born in England: Thomas, Mary, and Edward.
Sometime in 1639, the family sailed for the new world and arrived in Boston, Massachusetts, probably late 1639.
Margery was probably already ill from the long cold voyage and died shortly after their arrival. Her exact death date is not known, but was probably January, 1640.
1640. Vol. 9, pg., 10, Boston Ser: "Margery wife of Richard Sanford dyed." This is the only recorded mention she left in the New World. The family had not been here very long presumably. She reached an age we judge of about forty.
There is another reference that coincides with the above.
1640/1, January 30. P400P of M. "Richard Sanford joins the Boston Church. He was now 46 and the late death of his wife could well have turned his attention heavenward.
Inscription
Although this person was likely interred in this cemetery as it was the main cemetery in this area at the time of death, there is no record of her burial here.
