About Margit (Margaret) Sanderson

Margit, or as later she was known as Margaret, was born November 27, 1820 on Bakkajord in Tinn, Telemark, Norway. She was seventeen at the time of her leaving with her family for America. On the ship manifest she is listed as "Margareth" a ten year old female. The spelling of her name and exact age is undoubtedly the error of the ship's captain.

Little is known of this child from existing records of this family. She appears to have been a victim of the Beaver Creek malaria epidemic of 1837-1838. It is traditionally rumored within our family that she died in Beaver Creek during that winter. From all information ans sources available to us it would appear that she died in Beaver Creek along with her parents. If, given the assumption, that she did survive that winter and the malaria she would have been adopted out to some family and taken to an unknown location. No trace of her has been found and she has been lost to history.
