About Ole (George) Sanderson

Ole was born on Bakkajord on February 28, 1835. He was just over two years of age when the family undertook the voyage to America. He was with the family on the Brig "Noord" and arrived in New York Harbor on August 25, 1837.

It is known that after his arrival in America, and after his parents died in Beaver Creek Settlement, he assumed the anglicized name of George. He undoubted found his way to LaSalle County after the death of his parents.

In the U. S. Census for 1850 there is listed a George Sanderson ( a brother to Osten came to America a few years after this family and assumed the name of Sanderson rather that the shortened name of Sanders as our family did. There are a number of the decedents of Holje Sanderson that are native to LaSalle County, Illinois)). Ole, or George, could be that person listed in the 1850 census. It shows him living with a family by the name of Marcus Morrill.

No other knowledge of this child is known until the mid 1860's when he reportedly joined a cattle drive going to California. He went through Salt Lake City and stopped at a store in South Cottonwood and asked about his brother and two sisters. Ole was aware that his brother and two sisters had become Mormons and was hostile to the Church. The storekeeper offered to send a messenger to his brother who lived nearby and summon him. Ole did not want to see his family. He told the storekeeper that he was on his way to California. By the time the message got to Sondra, his brother, he was on his way and a search by Sondra failed to locate him. The family was sad that he did not want to see them.

No other information is know of Ole, or George, from that date. It is presumed that he went to California and is lost to history.
