Margory Belt

This Mary Wight Sprigg is the same lady who, as the widow of Thomas Sprigg, Jr., married Col. Joseph Belt. The daughter of Mary and Thomas Sprigg, Mary, married Jeremiah Belt, one of Col. Joseph and Esther Belt's sons. (Managers Note: I do not know how to link the two locations on the tree, so this line shows up above Mary Wight Sprigg Belt's profile.

The above narrative is incorrect, as are the adjusted dates of Margory Wightt's birth and death.

Margory Wightt Sprigg Belt should not be confused with Mary Wightt Belt, although they both married Belts. Margory Wightt is never correctly spelled with one t. She was not born before John Wightt's first wife died in 1687. She did not die the same day as her second husband in 1761. Had she been born in 1685, it could not have been in Prince George's Country, as it did not exist until 1696.

John Wightt and Ann Gantt were married about 1695. Margory was born in 1698 (Maryland archives). She was able to read in 1710 and married before 1715, when her first child was born. Also, her will was executed on 9/27/1783.
