Birth: May 26, 1822, Mosterhamn, Hordaland fylke, Norway

Death: Oct. 1, 1904, Lake Mills, Winnebago County, Iowa, USA

On Saturday, October 1, Mrs. Margaretta Johnson died at her home in Center township, 4 1/2 miles west of here, at the good old age of 82 years. She had been somewhat ill the past two weeks. This and old age is assigned as the cause of her death. She was conscious to the last and bid her relatives farewell.

The deceased is the widow of Njeld Johnson, who preceded her to the home beyond twenty-three years ago. Mrs. Johnson was born in Moster, Norway, on the 26th day of May, 1822. She was married to Njeld Johnson in 1846. Together with their three children they came to this country and settled near Lisbon, Ill. In the fall of 1859 they removed to Winneshiek county, where they lived until in 1866 when they removed to Winnebago county. They were the first white settlers to locate in this territory on the west side of Lime Creek. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Synod church, a true Christian woman. She fulfilled her mission well on this earth and has gone to receive her reward.
