About Margrietje Jensen Wiltsie

Merging conflicts:

1)Last name of Meyarts Meyerings

Or Meyers

Or Meijering

For now, I'm selecting Meijring since it seems more likely as she was Dutch, although I'll put Meyerings in the display name to make it easier for others looking for merges (Sam Willsea)

2)Died either in Newtown Long Island

Or in Newtown, Livingston, NY

The records I have agree with the first, so I'm choosing that one for now (Sam Willsea)

3) Middle name of B.

Or middle name of Jansen / Jenson

4) birth date of c. 1633

Or birth date of c. 1639

1633 seems most common, so we'll leave it there for now, but again, there's no proof which one is true as of yet (Sam Willsea)

Biography

Meyrinck, aka Margrietje (English: Margaret) is the daughter of Jan Meyers and his wife Teuntje Straitsman. She and her half-brother, Laurens Haff, were born in the Dutch Colony of Fort Margaret on the Cabedelo peninsula in Pemambuco, Brazil.

Margrietje was baptized on April 20, 1639, in the Dutch Reformed Church in Recife, Brazil. [1]

Margaret married Herman Jansen Van Lenneps and lived in Esopus, (*Kingston) in Ulster County, New York. The village lies about 90 miles up the Hudson River from New York City. It was here that Hendrich/Hendrick Martensen met her, as a widow, after her first husband's death.

It was in Esopus, on December 11, 1660, that Meyrinck and Henrdrich would become the parents of Fytje (English: Sophia) This daughter, "Sophia" would marry Theunis Herckz Cranckheit, son of Herbts Sibouts Cranckheit and Wyntje Theunis Quick.

Also born in Ulster County were Jannatje, Barber, Marten, and Hendrick. By the time her son, Myndert was born in 1672, the family had moved to Newtown, Long Island. Younger brothers Theunis and Jacob were also born on Long Island.

In 1686, Margaret was listed as a member of the Dutch Reformed Church ["Margreit Meyrinck, the wife of Hendrick Martensen", living at Arme Bouwerye ("Poor Bowery" in Newtown)].

Contributor Michael Tosner (#47849626) clarifies the place of death. Findagrave locates Newtown in Suffolk county but "the correct location is Newtown, Queens County. Newtown at the time covered north central Queens. From the East river todays Long Island City to Flushing Queens."

Margaret/Margrietje Meyers/Meijering was the daughter of Jan Meyers and his wife Teuntje Straitsman.

She and her half-brother Laurens Haff were born in the Dutch Colony of Fort Margaret on the Cabedelo peninsula in Brazil.

She was baptized on April 20, 1639, at the Dutch Reformed Church in Recife, Brazil.

Margaret may have been of German ancestry. Her stepfather, Gabriel Carbosie, was German.

Margaret first married (1) Herman Jansen van Lenneps. She and her first husband Herman had a son, Jan Hermansen (baptized Apr 17, 1658 in New Amsterdam). Jan is listed next to his stepfather, Hendrick Martinson, in a 1678 list of Newtown inhabitants.

Margaret was a widow when she married (2) Hendrick Wiltsie June 26, 1690 at Flatbush, Long Island, New York.

They had the following children.

1. Sophia 2. Jannetjen 3. Barber 4. Hendrick 5. Meyndert 6. Theunis 7. Jacob 8. Marten

In 1686, Margaret was listed as a member of the Dutch Reformed Church ["Margreit Meyrinck, the wife of Hendrick Matrensen", living at Arme Bouwerye ("Poor Bowery" in Newtown)].
