Death Notice: TAB MHG O/1591 (1880), which seems to indicate that her Date of Birth was circa 1796(??).

Research Notes:
1. In "Oude Kaapsche Familien" (See Sources), there is no reference to a "Maria Aletta" as a child of Gerrit van Zyl.
2. In the digitalised version, "Genealogies of old South African Families" (See Sources), there is no reference to a "Maria Aletta" as a child of Gerrit van Zyl.
3. The first such reference I could locate (and probably also the most authoritative) is in GISA's SAG Vol. 17 (See Sources), where she is mentioned as e3.
4. Her Death Notice does not mention her parents.
5. No Baptism Record could thus far be located.
6. If she was born in 1801 as suggested by some sources, this would be problematic given that Frederik Jacobus (e4) was born in 1801 (See his profile for source documentation.)
7. If she was born in 1796 as suggested by her Death Notice, this would be problematic given that Maria Sophia (e1) was born in 1796 (See her profile for source documentation.)
8. MOOC8/63.5a (see profile of her mother, Elsje Magdalena van Emmenes) states that Elsje Magdalena had 7 children. Baptism records have indeed been located for 7 children (e1, e2, e4, e5, e6, e7 and e8), but not for an eighth child (e3)
9. Aside from the reference in SAG 17, the only evidence-based reasons to fit Maria Aletta in here would in my opinion be (a) that her own name fits in with that of Maria Aletta Jacobse and (b) that she named her own first-born Elsje Magdalena.
