Oneida
The Holy Apostles Episcopal Church Marriage Register gives her name as Maria Doxtator when she marries Isaac Danforth on 30 July 1844. The Holy Apostles Episcopal Church Birth and Christening Registers later give her name as Maria at the birth of her three children, Cobus, Daniel, and Cornelius by "Isaac Danford". Other records, including the Holy Apostles Episcopal Church Names of Oneidas who Served in U.S. Army in War of 1860 and the Joseph O. Powless Diary, prove that Maria was later known as Margaret. When her son Cobus later dies in the Civil War, the Joseph O. Powless Diary records his death as follows: "Son of Margaret Ninham (Indian Name) Gogwis/Cobus Danforth, fell dead at war August 23." (JO Powless Diary, page 40.) She later appears on the 1877 Annuity List of the Oneidas of Wisconsin as "Margaret" wife of Thomas Ninham.
