  • MARGARET STEMPLE: HER MAIDEN NAME AND POSSIBLE PARENTS

Mary Margaret STEMPLE was born before 1736 and probably around 1733, probably in Germany. Unfortunately, her maiden name is not mentioned in any church records. In his .4 Genealogy of the Stemple Family, Vol. 2, Jay F. STEMPLE states that Mary Margaret was born a BOYLES; however, he cites no source for his information. In "A Short Account of My Origins" written in German (translated by Margaret Miller SIMON) in the summer of 1842 by David SIMON, the eldest son of Jacob SIMON and his wife Elisabeth STEMPLE, David names his mother's parents and grandparents, specifically giving the women's maiden names: "...Elisabeth STEMPEL, who was born February 8, 1790 in Preston County, Virginia, and who, in the autumn of 1810, had come to Boardman, Ohio, with her aunt (wife of Adam SIMON). Her parents were named David and Eva Catharina STEMPEL. Her mother was the eldest child of Thomas and Eva Elisabeth REINHART and her father was the son of Gottfried and Margaret STEMPEL, born a SPECK. The other grandmother was born a WEISHAAR." Margaret Miller SIMON translated "A Short Account of My Origins" in November 1973 and it was published in the quarterly publication of the Ohio Genealogical Society, "The Report" Vol. XIV, fall 1974.
