He died after 24 Oct 1813 and was buried in Pioneer Cemetery, Aurora, Preston Co, WV

Martin S STEMPLE

Martin, born 1772 in Washington County, MD was about 17 when his father moved to Aurora (now Preston County, WV). The two leading genealogies of the Stemple family (Jay Stemple and Coffman & Stemple - see notes of Martin's father, Godfrey for complete references) disagree on the composition of his family. Both agree

he was married twice;

(1) to Mar- garetta Boyles and

(2) to Margaret Montgomery.

Jay Stemple assigns five children to the first marriage: Adam, Daniel, John Martin, Sarah, Samuel and three to the second marriage: Martin, Catherine and Wilhelm (p. 10, 11). Coffman & Stemple assign seven children to the first marriage, omitting Catherine all together (p. 334, 335). The Aurora Documents (see Godfrey notes), give birth/baptism dates for the seven recognized by Coffman & Stemple (pp. 22, 24, 25, 27, 30, 33), but due to the similarity of the names of the two wives, it is impossible to resolve this problem. The Aurora Documents do not give marriage or death dates during this time period. Until further evidence becomes available, the Jay Stemple family constellation is followed.

Ancestral File gives birth date as 3 February 1772. Clay Stemple has christening date as 13 April 1772

Martin also married (2) Margaret MONTGOMERY.
